Lend an Eye was conceptualised with the intent to enrich the lives of the blind. The app not only helps them get from point A to B unsupervised, but also enables them to make choices the way we do. Like deciding which sunscreen lotion to buy based on its SPF value. Or which breakfast cereal is the least fattening of the two. What the app does is mimic the principles of Skype and FaceTime to turn the phone into the eyes for a blind person. Once the blind launch the app, which then contacts several volunteers simultaneously. The volunteer that answers the call becomes the eyes for the blind person. Using the in-built camera on the blind person’s smartphone, the volunteer then guides him to wherever he wishes to go or whatever he wishes to do.
